Dongo Consulting
Dongo Consulting Pty Ltd was conceived in May 2020 on the background of the global pandemic and the devastating effects on safety and productivity for businesses. The COVID-19 pandemic has plunged the global economy into an unprecedented crisis with both business entities and human capital fighting for survival. The GDP of South Africa is expected to decline sharply as a consequence of the economic fallout from the global health pandemic. In the "new normal" during and after the pandemic, businesses are challenged to adopt and learn new strategies at a rapid pace to keep up with the demands presented by the sudden change. The new business operations have to incorporate measures to mitigate risk and to incorporate surveillance for health-related risks in their daily operations. Furthermore, various regulatory and legislative measures impose upon businesses to make adjustments to their operations to mitigate for the health-related risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
There is a myriad of challenges faced by businesses, including changing channels of doing business, changing products, changing business infrastructure and repurposing existing infrastructure. Some of the new adjustments may include remote working and adoption of digital business strategy and technology for some businesses. In contrast, some businesses may not be amenable to remote working due to their resources and capabilities and due to necessitating organisational design and infrastructure adjustments. Depending on the type of product and services, some businesses may have to adjust existing business infrastructure, operations and strategy to be aligned with health-related risk management and prevention.
The impetus to undertake the responsibility to save lives and livelihoods as mutually inclusive imperatives cannot be overemphasised. Leaders in business and organisations are challenged with the task of ensuring business continuity plans in a profitable manner while protecting their employees and clients. The depth of recovery, length of recovery and the gradient of recovery will dictate both the economic recovery outcomes and human capital outcomes from the COVID-19 pandemic. A balance ought to be met between economic recovery and human capital recovery.
